Can the Philippines’ new team finally make its mark on the race?
A young Philippine UCI Continental Team founded in 2023.
Most of its riders are Filipino, but its foreign riders are the ones expected to target results.
Dutch sprinter Jeroen Meijers and Brazilian Nicolas Sessler, a former UCI ProTeam rider, have both competed at Tour de Kyushu for the past two years.
The team’s best result in the event so far is Meijers’ fifth place on the Kumamoto-Aso stage in 2024.
This year, the team will aim even higher.
Although it lost its national championship title in February, there was positive news when 19-year-old Mark Baruelo won the U23 title.
Nichol Pareja, strong in individual time trials, is likely to be involved in the early battles for the breakaway.
